Okay, so I know what you’re thinking – “Another article about how living in your sorority house is the best thing ever? Pass.” Well, even if you don’t live in your sorority house, you should not be afraid to make it your home, too. We’re all sisters, right? Why not get comfortable and kick up your feet around the people who will never turn down a pizza and cheesy Disney movie night?
Ever feel like you’re always missing out on all of the fun, informal sisterhood trips to Panera, Starbucks, the mall, or even just to Walmart? Chances are many of your sisters just sit around all day thinking about how they want to get dinner or how they still haven’t gotten a dress for formal, and then someone comes along and offers to take them wherever they need to go.
Want to binge on pizza and junk food? Your sisters will probably join in. Feel like bumming it in your favorite pajama pants and sweatshirt? Chances are, you’ll see someone else doing the same. Maybe you’ll even find someone to snuggle with on a day when the weather is crap. Whatever mood you’re in, there will probably be someone else in it with you.
You’re probably thinking that every time you blink there is another event or meeting and you can’t catch a break, so the library probably seems more inviting. But try thinking about those (rare) days when no one is around, when the house becomes completely quiet and you can actually hear yourself think. Plus, it’s a lot nicer to look at than the bleak walls of a study room in the library.
I know we’ve graduated to an age where most people feel like they have to sit in their rooms with their faces glued to their laptop screens, but when you’re in a sorority, that is so not the case. You have dozens of sisters – chances are you already know at least one person who watches something you do, so why not watch it together at the house?
Sometimes, you just get the urge to craft. We all do. So why not bring your art supplies over to your sorority house and get crafting, maybe it will inspire someone else and a domino effect will ensue. Soon everyone will be sitting around getting their craft on!
I don’t know about everyone else, but I know that there is always some kind of food being offered up at our sorority house, and it always gets eaten up. So chances are much higher that you will be a party to delicious baked goods or leftovers that someone didn’t want and is giving away if you spend more time at your house.
If you compared a photograph of a typical dorm room and a sorority house, which would you say looks like somewhere you would want to hang out? I don’t know about you, but I like the atmosphere at our sorority house much better than a cramped dorm room, even if a dorm room is decorated to my heart’s desire.
Your house should be somewhere that you feel like you actually want to go, not for any particular reason other than the fact that you want to be there. It should be your home. So don’t be afraid to show up and get comfortable and just hang out with your sisters and be sisters. I promise you won’t regret it at all!
