The first day of class means new professors, assignments, and impressions. Sorority girls always get noticed so I think it is important to put your best outfit forward and make a good impression. North Carolina is an oven right now, in the mid to upper nineties every day and, normally, the heat doesn’t die down until mid-October.
To beat the hot and sweaty walk to class, opt for a shoulder bag instead of a backpack to avoid the dreaded back sweat. AOII’s down south are all about the Parrott Canvas Co. canvas tote bags. They come in gorgeous colors and can be monogrammed. There is a pocket on the front where I always drop my phone in but it is convenient for pens, makeup or sunglasses! Many girls add sorority buttons to their bags.
You may think you know where your classroom is… You don’t and you will be doing a lot of walking around to find it! Save your wedges and go for some girly, comfy sandals in a metallic or a bright color. Jack Roger’s are always stylish, but try not to break in a new pair just yet, as that can be painful and not worth the blisters. Fake Jack’s are much more comfortable, though!
If you’re feeling feminine and flirty, dresses in a breathable material make a great first day staple and can help keep you cool. If you’re not a dress person, patterned shorts with a solid colored flowy top (or vice versa) are just as comfortable and classy. Statement necklaces can be a great option too because it will help your professor remember you!
Another great statement on the first few days of class is wearing a letter shirt! This is a great way to get your sorority’s name out to the new PNM’s before rush starts. Sorority girls are always wearing your letters so even if you aren’t in a shirt, act like it! :)
A final class essential for sorority girls is a Lilly Pulitzer planner! I love them because there are monthly and weekly calendars, an additional monthly calendar at the beginning, and have plenty of writing space. They even come with stickers and an additional sticker set for $6.00. I bring mine everywhere and have my phone synched to it so I don’t forget any event, meeting, or assignment!
The first day of class is crucial for making a good impression. Even if you end up wearing party shirts and nikes (guilty), your professor will remember you. There are always tons of new freshman on campus so be sure to wear your letters proudly and fashionably all the time!
