As the relaxing summer season winds down and recruitment starts up, a place for respite from all the craziness becomes a welcome necessity. Whether you’re living in a dorm, apartment, or in the sorority house, personalizing your space produces a positive and calming atmosphere. The best part is… It can all be done easily on a budget! AOII’s absolutely love crafting for anything and everything and I am going to show you a few inexpensive, easy, and CUTE crafts to make your space feel like home!
A trademark for the Alpha O’s and ECU pirate girls is a monogram and your letters! Show them off in your room by heading to your neighborhood craft store (Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby) and pick up these wooden alphabet letters** in your respective monogram/letters, **a few pieces of your favorite scrapbook paper (most are around $1) and a bottle of Mod Podge. Looking for a cheap Mod Podge replacement? Try 1 part Elmer’s glue and 1 part water. All of these supplies can be bought in the same craft store.
Almost every sorority girl loves jewelry and wears pieces all the time, so why not have an equally gorgeous place to put them? The Garden Center at Home Depot sells flowerpots and plates that, with a little sorority girl lovin’, can be the perfect jewelry spot! You will need 3 flowerpots and 3 plates (they should be sold together): 1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small of both.
You could be throwing a party or just having some people over, but coasters are a great statement that says creative and thoughtful. Lowes and Home Depot sells sample size square tiles, about 3 or 4 inches. Buy a lot or a little, recycle your Lilly planner months and Mod Podge them onto the tiles! Paint the sides black, white, a metallic, or a color for an added sleek and a polished look.
Decorating your space without breaking our teeny college banks can be done and still look amazing. All of these crafts are customizable to your own preference and also make great gifts for your sisters!
