Beach Bodies are in Season

It’s officially summer, and that means sunshine, warm weather, and hitting the beach. It’s time to lose the jackets and put on that bikini. That extra weight you added on may seem daunting, but have no fear. Here are a few tips to get that beach body you deserve!

1. Stay Hydrated

Drinking water doesn’t only improve your skin, but it can help you shed a few pounds, too! Ice-cold H2O can help boost your metabolism to burn more calories. The reason for this? Say the water goes in a 45 degree and goes out at 98.6 degrees. Our organs use energy to warm the water, which results in more calories being burned.

2. Keep Your Head Up!

Posture plays a huge factor in looking lean. Stand up tall, push your shoulders back, and keep your stomach tight. Good posture burns more calories and gives you more confidence!

3. Catch some Zz’s

If you want to speed your metabolism, hit the sheets and get at least 6-8 hours of sleep. Beauty sleep is no myth!

4. Eat Those Veggies

Leafy greens and non-starchy vegetables are the best for your body. They are full of vitamins and minerals that will help you feel full and energized throughout the day.

5. Work it Out!

Do 30 minutes of cardio 3-5 times a day. Walk, jog, bike, swim, hike, etc. Choose something you enjoy, that way you are more likely to stick with it. This will improve your health and increase your metabolism even after you are finished exercising.

6. Make a Change

If you simply can’t find the time to do a formal exercise, make simple everyday changes to stay active. Take the stairs. Park a little further away from your destination and walk. Clean the house. Put on the radio and dance. Do errands that require you to stay on your feet. Every single bit of physical activity adds up – it’s like putting pennies in a piggy bank.

7. Cut Calories

Working out is only part of it. You have to make healthy food choices as well. Skip the side of fries, and opt for a salad instead. Your body will thank you.

8. Make Fiber Your Friend

Foods high in protein and fiber can help slow the digestive process, resulting in feeling fuller for longer periods of time. You’ll receive more satisfaction with fewer calories. Besides that, it can help constipation and bloating, making your stomach look flatter.

9. Size Matters

Portion-controlled meals are key to losing weight. If you eat too much of something, even fruit, it can have negative effects on your tummy.

10. LOL

The best thing for your abs is laughing. Each time you laugh, it strengthens and tightens your core. There are even places that offer laughing yoga classes.

11. Find the Suit for You!

Everyone is built differently, and not every swimsuit style will look great on your specific body. Find the one that flatters your body type. Here are a few basic tips to follow:

  • To highlight a feature you like, use a bright color or pattern.
  • To hide something you don’t like, use a solid color.
  • If you have pale skin, use black or deep jewel tones, such as dark purple, navy, and maroon.
  • If you have dark skin, bright colors can actually be more flattering and help hide what you don’t like.
  • To add volume (such as to the bust or hips), choose a piece with ruffles in that area.
  • To hide volume (such as on the waist), use shirred or ruched fabric.
  • Don’t be afraid to buy separates that don’t match perfectly! Say you want to highlight your bust but draw attention away from your hips. You might buy a bikini top in a bright solid or pattern, and a bottom that’s a dark black, blue or brown (depending on the top).
