Run Delta Gammas, Run

On September 14th, the first Mizzou Circle of Sisterhood 5k gave a running start to a tradition that is sure to be continued. The idea for this race came from the novel, “Half the Sky.” This story influenced the women of Mizzou’s Panhellenic Board to act on bringing awareness and funding to women’s oppression in third world countries.

Quotes such as this one were placed around the course to inform and inspire with the use of social media.

The Panhellenic Board adopted Circle of Sisterhood as the Panhellenic philanthropy. The involvement in this philanthropy quickly grew and Mizzou’s Panhellenic Board was proud to say that they would not only be donating funds, but be breaking ground in June 2014 to build a school for girls in Nicaragua. However, the fundraising must start somewhere, and this 5k was the perfect start.

The Delta Gamma sorority as well as many others participated and ran for the Circle of Sisterhood philanthropy. As a new member of the sorority, I was not sure what to expect of the participation of the girls. When I arrived at check in my face could not help but have a smile on it from ear to ear. My fellow DG sisters seemed to be multiplying and it was then in that moment that again I knew why I chose to be a DG.
