College Style: When To Save And When To Splurge

Save: Fracket

A “fracket” is a jacket you wear to parties. Make sure that your “fracket” is not expensive and one you would not be upset about losing or getting spilled on.

Splurge: Winter jacket

At my campus in Rochester, a warm winter coat is essential. While they are investments, they are definitely worth getting high quality ones.

Save: Heels for Bars and Clubs

Buy a cheap pair of heels for parties that you don’t mind getting ruined.

Splurge: Heels for chapter

However, you should spend money on a classy pair of heels that you can wear for multiple occasions, such as chapter.

Save: Chunky statement necklaces

Statement necklaces are a must for any sorority girl. While it may be tempting to buy one from JCrew, you can find one at stores such as Forever21.

Splurge: A watch

A watch is something you will need even after college. I invested in a watch after graduation that I wear everyday and love.

Save: Leggings

I wear leggings so much that I just buy them in packs.

Splurge: Jeans that fit your body perfectly

Nothing beats a perfect pair of jeans… that you never wash because they fit perfectly.

Save: your formal dress

You only wear your formal dress once…

Splurge: a perfect Little Black Dress you can wear anywhere

Invest in a classy black dress that you can wear for any occasion that’s not a party.

Save: Themed-party costumes

It is not worth it to spend a lot of money on clothes for themed parties… Just go to your local thrift stores.

Splurge: Those pair of letters you’ve been dying to have

I reward myself by buying letters online that I will pass down to my legacy!

Save: Gloves and scarves

I bought a few adorable hats and scarves from H&M this winter.

Splurge: Bean Boots

An essential for any sorority girl living in the north. SO worth the money.
