Five Tips for the Next Recruitment Director

Okay so that tagline might have been a bit overdramatic, but it’s also very true 85% of recruitment. Recruitment is a stressful time and very hard to manage it, but it can be a lot less stressful if you use your resources. So you, as the next Recruitment Director, have to figure out what those are and I’m here to help.

Themes Can Make or Break You

Honestly I don’t care what chapter you’re adding to your story in your Disney theme or how you’re drafting the best since whatever year you were founded, and neither will the PMNs. When it comes to themes be original as you can and try to make them stand out so they can be memorable. When I went through recruitment before I remembered sorority letters, I remembered the theme. That’s why you have to make sure it’s noticeable, but also not taking over.

When It Comes Down To It, You’re In Charge

As women we can sometimes be more involved in things than we should be, and if your sisters are trying to run recruitment you better stand your ground. Try to give them some choices in minor issues like T-Shirts, but when it comes to big things like the night’s itinerary make sure you are the one planning it to make sure everything is perfect. You have to be able to accept that you can’t make everyone happy.

A Committee Is There for a Reason, Use It

Recruitment is a long process and not one person can do it all even if you think you can. The little things are easy to pass off to other people as long as you let them know how you want it. As long as you make sure they’re doing their jobs, everything will run smoothly

Plan Ahead, Even For The Worst

I have to say that my recruitment was probably one of the least stressful recruitments my sorority has had. My secret to less stress was knowing exactly what I was doing at every minute by planning for months. If you plan ahead I promise you will be a lot less stressed especially if you plan for the worst. Plan for what to do if you run out of time or if the rounds have gone faster than you expected so there aren’t any awkward moments.

Let Everyone Be Who They Are

Sororities are made up of many different kinds of women. If you make everyone act a certain way the PNMs will either 1. Realize they’re being fake or 2. Think that everyone in the sorority has to be that way to be accepted. We all know that that isn’t true but it’ll make them feel that way when they meet you for the first time. Make sure everyone is being themselves so that all of the PNMs feel comfortable around you, and that is what the PNMs will look for. When it comes down to it the PNMs don’t choose you based on what you wear o how much you spend, but how real you are. Never forget that.

Recruitment is a rollercoaster of emotions and I was so happy when it was over, but now I realize how much I loved every second of it. I hope you love it just as much as I did because it really is a special time.
