Alright, so I’ve really been wanting to speak about this topic for a long time now so I’m just going to jump right to it… why are y’all so scared of feminism?
The very definition of Feminism is “the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men”. Not so scary right? It’s time to throw out all those crazy old thoughts about feminism you use to have. Feminism is not some insane ploy for women to conquer the world and to enslave all members of the male population. The basic goal of feminism is gender equality and equity. We as woman just want to be treated as equals to our male counterparts. The importance is that women should not be facing bias, discrimination, or inequities just because we are members of the opposing gender. I’ve seen numerous photos of members of the “Women Against Feminism” movement holding up their signs claiming that they don’t need feminism because they “should feel empowered instead afraid”.
At first I was also scared to claim the feminist title because of the negative connotations the word carried with it, but then I began to realize what the hell am I scared of? I am proud of who I am and what I stand for. The fact of the matter is I do believe women should be treated equally to men and I do believe in respect towards everyone regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. I am a powerful woman who fosters uncompromising principle, ignites positive change, embraces individuality, and perpetuates the advancement of womanhood all while aiming high everyday to alleviate the world’s pain as much as I can. My name is Alexis Marie Chavarin and I am proud to call myself a feminist.
