Halloween is just around the corner, which means now is the time for sorority girls to start looking for the costumes they’ll need for “Halloweek”. Money can be tight for any college student, so a do-it-yourself costume can be easy and affordable! Here is a simple, but cute, costume that anybody can make with fabric, rope, pins, and a hot glue gun.
Step 1: Buy a yard and a half of any color fabric you want. My sisters and I picked out shiny fabrics with bright colors! Cut the corners off on the top ends, but leave enough fabric for the neck of your dress.
Step 2: Lay your fabric down flat (with the top two corners cut) and fold over the remaining fabric at the top to make a loop-hole for the rope.
Step 3: Lay your rope on the fabric where you want your neckline to be. Then, fold the top edge of the fabric around the rope gluing it to the other side of the fabric. Be careful not to glue the rope to the fabric!
Step 4: Once the glue is dry, scrunch the fabric together on the rope. Tie the rope in a knot that is big enough to fit around your head and that will lay comfortably on you.
Step 5: Once you’re ready for the evening, put the toga on around your neck and have a friend pin the edges. If you’re extra crafty, you can always sew it! If your fabric is too long, have a friend trim the edges for the perfect length.
You’re done! For the final touches tie an additional rope around your waist. If you have left over rope, you can use it as a headband or make bracelets to wrap up your arm. We paired our dresses with sandals to add to the Roman look!
