Open Letters To My Sorority Family Line

My greatest memory of my sorority, even though I have many wonderful ones to choose from, is big/little reveal day during my first semester as a Tri Sigma. Not only was I excited to find out who my big was, but I was excited to become a part of a family lineage that had roots to our chapter’s founding sisters.

I fell in love with my family line the moment I saw who my big was. My family line is filled with amazing women who I appreciate and love with my whole heart. They are the greatest blessing Tri Sigma has given me, and here are open letters to them to express my gratitude. I not only hope that these short letters make other sorority women feel warm and fuzzy about their own family line, but also encourages non-Greeks to consider going through recruitment to experience the joys that come with bigs, littles, twins, and so forth.

Dear Big…

First and foremost, I have to give a huge shout out to my big, a young woman who came into my life and has never left. She is my number one fan, even when I make mistakes, and has always been there for me. Thank you for teaching me what sisterhood is truly about and what it means to love someone completely, flaws and all. Thank you for listening to my weird jokes and (sometimes) laughing at them and for always being down for a cup of coffee. Thank you for always believing in me, and know that I always have, and always will, believe in you too.

Dear Grand-Big…

My grand-big and I are basically the same person, and I cannot express how much of an impact she’s had on my life, especially during my freshman year. Thank you for always being there when I need you, and for always picking up your phone when I call, even after you graduated and moved miles away from High Point. Thank you for always understanding my point of view (and for usually agreeing with it), for always being a positive light in my life, and for being a strong woman that I will look at as a role model for the rest of my college career and beyond.

Dear Great Grand-Big…

One of the most hardworking people I know is my great grand-big. Not only is she smart, and considerate, but she has goals for herself and follows them through. It has been a pleasure and a motivation to watch her succeed not only during her time at college, but also as she goes through post-grad life. She is another person in my family line that I look up to and know will do great things with her life.

Dear Twin…

Thank you for teaching me that a big’s love is large enough for both of us. Thank you for being excited to meet me even when I was miles away studying abroad last semester when you became a part of the family. Thank you for accepting me right away when we did finally meet and for being willing to get to know me. I cannot wait to spend the rest of our college years together, and years after that when we graduate. I’m excited to see how our family expands through us when we become bigs ourselves in the spring.

Dear Future Little(s)…

I don’t even know who you are yet, but I know that you will be a perfect addition to our family line. I know that you will encompass everything our sorority stands for, and will be the true definition of a Tri Sigma. I cannot wait to meet you in the spring, and to embrace you in my arms on your big/little reveal day.

All in all, my sorority experience would be nowhere complete without you all. It is a blessing to be able to call you my big, grand-big, great grand-big, and twin. Thanks for being everything I needed you all to be and more.

Sigma love and mine,
